Abstract

Projections show that by 2030, prevalence of hypertension will increase 7,2% from 2013 estimate. The hypertension prevalence in South Kalimantan in 2013 is 30,8%. Hypertension is associate with impaired quality of life due to complications or co-morbidities, awareness of diagnosis and adverse effect from anti hypertension medication. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of life after giving brief oral counseling and reminder motivation via short text massage (SMS) by pharmacist. This study was conducted with quasi-experimental design.The ambulatory hypertension patients data were collected prospectively during the period of April until June 2015. A total sample of 68 patients were divided 2 group.34 (50%) patients were receive counseling and short text massage (Intervention Group) and 34 (50%) were not receive intervention.Quality of life was scored before (initial follow up), and after study (first follow up and second follow up). Exclusion criteria were deaf, pregnant, illiterate, and have not hand phone. Data Collection were collected by doing interview and completion of SF-36 questionnair. outcome measured is quality of life domain in hypertensive patient.the result showed that brief oral counseling intervention and reminder motivation via short text massage (SMS) could improve the quality of life in intervention group in comparison to the control group. At the final follow up intervention group patients had significantly (p=0,000) higher average scores of quality of life. the comparison of the two group with Mann Withney test and Independent sample t test showed that there were a significant between control and intervention of general health (p=0,000), physical function (p=0,467), role physical (p=0,000), role emotional (p=0,000), social function (p=0,004), bodily pain (p=0,000), vitality (p=0.016) and mental health (p=0,000), this study conclude that a pharmacist can play in important role in the improving the quality of life of patients with hypertension.
