Abstract

PT X is an automotive industry that manufactures motocycles and thair components. One of its producs is cylender comp KEHL that manufactured at the Departement of Die Casting. So far is found quite a lot of defects in the form of leak on the component (69%), which makes the component unusebable (reject). From observations an interviews with employees, allegedly melting temperature and coverall material used in the melting process affects the defects. To solve the problem, then an experiment desingning is carried out n rder to obtain precise parameter values, to increase Quality product. The methodsed is fatorial experiments. Independen variables or faktor that are controlled in the research is the temperautre of melting process and coverall dose. While the respons variables measured is the number of standard products in one batch. ANOVA and least significant difference method are used to know what factor that significantly affect the quality of product and to determine which level of the two independent variables that gives the best results. The result of analysus of variance (ANOVA) showed that the melting temperature and coverall dose significantly affected the quality of the cylinder comp KEHL. There is no interaction between these factors. Temperature and coverall dove level which produce he best result is 740°C and 7 kg. By the research, there is a decrease in the percentage of defective products, which is from 69% to 35%.
