Abstract

Asthma is a chronic airway inflammatory disease characterized by wheezing, chouging, and tightness
in the chest due to airway obstruction. Asthma attacks has variation from mild to severe and can even be fatal of
life-threatening. The use of drugs can be said to be rational if the patient receives the appropiete medicine
whice appropriate whit their needs, with the number of drugs and type of asthma, so rational treathment is
needed to accelerate the healing process and to prevent the accurrence of disease complications that effect the
length of stay in patient. This study aims to identify the relationship between the rational threathment with
length of stay among asthma patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Hospital in 2016. This study use an
analityc observational research design with cross sectional design and retrospective data collection using
medical couterparts in 2016 that met the criteria inclusion. The inclusion criteria in this study were patients
diagnosing asthma with ICD J45.9. Data analysis used descriptive analysis and statistical analysis Continuity
Correction Total sampling of 70 patients. From the results of the study found patients with the right category of
right patient as many as 22 patient (31.4%), right dose of 33 patients (47,1%). The use of rational treathment
was 17 patients (24.2%). and irrational threathment was 53 patients (75.8%). For the test result the Continuity
Correction relationship between rational threathment and the length of hospitalization of asthma patients
waspvalue of 1.000 and value Odd ratio was 1.038. The conclusion of this study is that there is no relationship
between the rational threathment and the length of stay of asthma patiens at the PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul
Hospital in 2016 with p value = 1.000 (p>0,05) and the use of treathment in patient with asthma is irrational
1.038 time more likely to undergo hospitalization longer than the rational use of threathment.
