Abstract
There are not many TKI children who continue their education to college. One
contributing factor is the increase in income after becoming a migrant worker has not
encouraged parents to send their children to college. The purpose of this study was to determine
how the interest in continuing education to tertiary institutions for Indonesian child laborers
(TKI) in Cidulang Village, Cikijing District, Majalengka Regency. This research uses
descriptive qualitative research type. The research subjects were the children of the migrant
workers and their parents (father, mother or surrogate parents) in Cidulang Village, Cikijing
District, Majalengka Regency. While the object of research is the interest in continuing
education to tertiary institutions for TKI children. Data collection method is done by in-depth
interviews and documentation. Technical data analysis is done by data reduction, data
presentation and conclusion drawing. The results showed that, (1) internal factors; in general,
the children of migrant workers in Cidulang village have an interest in continuing their
education to college which arises from themselves. The majority of the children of migrant
workers in Cidulang Village have ideals, motivation and willingness to support their continuing
education to college. (2) external factors; the interest of TKI children in Cidulang Village to
continue their education to tertiary institutions was less supported by their externals. In the
school environment, teachers and peers do not encourage children to go to college. The family
environment of TKI children in Cidulang Village also does not support children to continue
their education to college because of the low level of education taken by parents resulting in a
lack of support and motivation for children. With the increase in parental income after
becoming a migrant worker also has not been able to generate support and motivation for
children to continue their education to college because increased income is more used by
parents to meet household needs.
