Abstract

This study aims to understand the description and factors that
influence the consumptive behavior of tobacco farmers. The subject
consists of three tobacco farmers in Temanggung District, Indonesia.
The research method used qualitative method with case
phenomenology approach. Data collection techniques in this study used
semi-structured interviews and observations as additional data. Data
analysis techniques in this study used content analysis and used
triangulation of data sources with significant person to fulfill data validity
requirements.
The results showed that three subjects had consumptive behavior.
Consumptive behavior of tobacco farmers occurs after yields with the good
yields of tobacco. In general, consumptive behavior occurs when a person
has a lot of money and unable to resist the sudden urge to purchase.
Consumptive behavior is caused by motivation in individuals or outside and
also caused by weak self-control thus encouraging the emergence of
consumptive behavior that is impulsive, wasteful and non rational buying
just to realize desire.
The conclusion of this study is that the three tobacco farmers have
ever do consumptive behaviour, which is indicated by the experience of
impulsive purchases, wasteful, and non rational buying. Motivation, selfcontrol, economic situation, and reference groups are factors that influence
consumptive behavior in tobacco farmers.
