Abstract

Indonesian classroom is multicultural classroom. The students come from different background of culture. They come from Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Papua even from western countries. Their different background of culture naturally raises their ethnocentrism and their learning style. As the result, the class and their relation among the students become rigid. The students also gather and make groups with the others who have the same background of culture and learning style. Hence, this paper will explain the ice breaking in multicultural class. Communicative and cooperative learning strategies become appropriate ice breaker of multicultural classroom. The group discussion and work, peer review and games are activities that can encourage the students to break their ice and to be gathered with the others.
