Abstract
The purpose of writing this article is to describe the conditions of self esteem that exist in
vocational students in the city of Yogyakarta. The study used a quantitative approach to the type
of descriptive survey. The number of subjects in the study were 193 vocational students from
SMK Negeri Yogyakarta. The sampling technique uses simple random sampling. The
measurement of self esteem will be done using the self esteem scale which will be adopted from
the Hare Self esteem Scale (HSES). The data analysis technique used is quantitative data
analysis. This analysis is carried out by describing the level of self esteem of vocational students
throughout the city of Yogyakarta, so that the percentage of students who have self esteem in the
high, medium and low categories will be known. The results showed that the level of self esteem
of Yogyakarta City Vocational High School students was in the moderate category with a
percentage of 55.44%, a high category with a percentage of 44.56% and a low category with a
percentage of 0%. The data shows that Yogyakarta City Vocational School students have good
self esteem, meaning that students are able to evaluate and assess themselves positively both
from three main areas of youth interaction, namely home, peer and school. The magnitude of
each component of student self esteem is home by 39.02%, school component is 34.29%, and
peer component is 26.68%. This means that students have a perception that is almost as good
about three main areas in the self esteem of Yogyakarta City Vocational School students.
