Abstract

Lipid extraction through hydrodynamic cavitation (HCLE) is one of the promising processes with low energy requirements. Therefore, this study focuses on reducing energy requirements using a discrete flow system as well as evaluating two models to be used in calculating volumetric mass transfer coefficient. It was discovered that the variations in the number of repetitions, cavitation number, microalgae concentration, and temperature affected the energy requirement value and the lowest energy requirement was recorded to be 10 kJ/gram lipid. Moreover, the first model was designed using total lipid mass transfer approximation (Model 1) while the second was through separated lipid mass transfer approximation (Model 2). It was found that the extraction curve consists of three sections and the values of total volumetric mass transfer coefficient (
