Abstract
This study aims to reveal the dynamics of achieving resilience in 2 families of small business owners who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and are domiciled in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. This study used a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data obtained from observations and semi-structured interviews and analyzed by content analysis. The results showed that family A experienced financial difficulties which made A's mother despair and triggered family conflicts. The dynamics of achieving family resilience can be seen from the openness in emotional expression and communication that leads to collaborative problem solving, flexibility and persistence in seeking new job opportunities, bonding between family members, strong spirituality and hope for the future. Family B is also experiencing financial difficulties because their business has stopped. The dynamics of achieving family B resilience can be seen from the collaboration in solving problems, openness in communication, flexibility in dealing with difficult situations, attachment or connectedness between family members, spiritual strength and hope for the future. Another finding is that the mother figure in both families is the main breadwinner, but the father is still respected hence they can carry out the role as the head of the family well. The involvement of 2 family sub-systems, namely children and parents produces comprehensive data so that it can be used as an option in extracting family research data.
