Abstract
Food borne disease is a disease caused by microorganisms or substances that enter the body through the food consumed. Food handlers have great potential for the possibility of contamination of a food, because food handlers are people who are directly involved from the process of preparing food to serving food. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between hygiene and sanitation and the use of personal protective equipment by traders with physical contaminants of traditional snack in the Legi market in the city of Gede, Yogyakarta in 2021.This type of research uses across sectionalmethod, which is looking for the relationship between the independent variables and the dependent variables that are observed at the same time (period). This research was conducted at Pasar Legi Kotagede Yogyakarta, when the research was carried out from May to June. The population is all traders of traditional snacks in the Legi market Kotagede Yogyakarta with a total of 34 respondents, while the total samplingtechnique is used for the sampling technique. The variables studied were personal hygiene, food sanitation, use of personal protective equipment and physical contaminants. The statistical test used the chi square test.The results of the chi square statistical test showed 1) personal hygiene did not have a significant relationship with physical contaminants (p-value= 0.672). 2) food sanitation has no significant relationship with physical contaminants (p-value=0.656). 3) personal protective equipment did not have a significant relationship with physical contaminants (p-value= 0.672).There is no relationship between hygiene, sanitation and the use of personal protective equipment by traders with physical contaminants of traditional snacks at the Legi market in Kotagede, Yogyakarta in 2021
