Abstract

Child-friendly schools have been implemented in Indonesia. One of the roles of child-friendly schools is to care about mental health by assisting children's psychosocial development. This study aims to determine the influence of teachers on the psychosocial development of children in child-friendly schools. This research is research field research with a qualitative approach. The subjects in this study were fifth-grade students at 2 elementary schools in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data collection techniques in this study are interviews and observation. Interviews were conducted with teachers and 5th-grade students of Al-Azhar 31 Elementary School Yogyakarta and Muhammadiyah Pandes Elementary School. Data analysis in this study used descriptive analysis, where the data collected were analyzed and presented descriptively. The results of this study are that teachers have an essential role in assisting child psychosocial development through child-friendly schools. Seeing the many psychosocial disorders experienced by students, the teacher in the learning class plays an active role and cooperates with students in building a positive learning atmosphere. So that students consider studying at school not merely as academic competition and achieving rankings. The teacher accompanies students, cares about their psycho-emotional state, and motivates students to have high creativity. In addition, the teacher and the students try to create a friendly classroom and mutual respect so that a conducive learning atmosphere and easy-to-reach learning. As much as possible, avoid corporal punishment, teacher judgment, and violence when students make mistakes because it will hurt students both emotionally and socially. The teacher provides equal opportunities to every student regardless of race, gender, and other things so that students are accustomed to living with the principle of high tolerance.
