Abstract
The research studied Struggles of the Main Character Against Cancer In The Fault In Our Stars novel by John Green which focused on analyzing the struggles of Hazel Grace Lancaster against cancer in The Fault in Our Stars novel by John Green. The objectives of this study are to describe the characterization of the main character in John Green's novel The Fault In Our Stars, to explain the main character's struggle to survive cancer in The Fault In Our Stars, and to describe the moral values that can be learned from the novel The Fault In Our Stars.
This research is categorized as a library research, the data used are reading books,journals, articles, and by taking notes. The object of the study is the struggle of Hazel’s
against cancer in The Fault in Our Stars novel by John Green, and the subject is The Fault in Our Stars novel by John Green. Focus on this research is struggles of the main character against cancer explained by the author uses theory of Individual Psychology by Alfred Adler.
The data is taken by using a descriptive qualitative method.
The result of the study shows that Hazel's struggle is that she always tries to respect life, especially her friend's life. She always gives encouragement to stay alive for Augustus, who is one of her friends in the Support Group. She tries to reject the Support group and leaves the group. Hazel's other struggles also arise where in her daily life she always reads novels and she also tries to get rid of her negative thoughts about cancer by reading her favorite novels. Then after she read the novel she made the decision to meet the author of the novel. Hazel also tries to have a good relationship with a man
