This research is intended to determine the correlation between students’ attitude and motivation toward the English achievement. This thesis entitled “The Correlation between Students’ Attitude and Motivation toward English Achievement at Korean Bilingual School” is intended (1) to find out the correlation between students’ attitude toward English achievement of the bilingual Korean students, (2) to determine the correlation between students’ motivation toward their English achievement of the Korean bilingual students, and (3) to find out the correlation between students’ attitude and motivation toward their English achievement.
The type of this research is a correlational research. It evaluates the hypotheses concerning correlation between the two variables that were examined statistically. The research subject consisted of 10 Korean Bilingual students at Sekolah Bahasa Korea of Yogyakarta. In order to determine the students’ attitude and motivation, the students were given a questionnaire based on Gardner's Attitude/Motivation Test Battery (AMTB); while the students’ achievement is measured based on the score of English achievement test. The questionnaires and achievement test were used for data collection. In order to know the level of the students’ attitude, motivation, and achievement, the data analysis technique was done statistically using the formulas of the ideal mean and the standard deviation of the score. The Product Moment of correlation coefficient test was applied in analyzing the data. It is used to investigate the existence and the degree of the correlation between students’ attitude and motivation indexes toward students’ achievement score in English class.
The findings of the research show that there is a positive and significant correlation between students’ attitude toward English achievement. It can be seen from the r value = 0.828 with alpha level 5% which indicated that the hypothesis is accepted. There is a positive and significant correlation between students’ motivation toward English achievement because it is found that the r value is 0. 762 at alpha level of 5%. Meanwhile, there is positive and significant correlation between students’ attitude and students motivation toward English achievement with the value of r= 0.830 at alpha level 5%, it showed high correlation.
