Abstract

This research entitled A Morphological Analysis of Short Stories the Red-headed League and the Adventures of the Three Garridebs is aimed to find out the process and pattern of affixation in the short stories “The Red-Headed League” and “The Adventure of the Three Garridebs”. The researcher studied morphology because it is crucial and it teaches us about words, because words are the foundation of language.

The method used in this research is a qualitative method. This research data contains affixes in short stories “The Red-Headed League” and “The Adventure of the Three Garridebs”. The research used the record review as a method of collecting data because the data taken comes from published work. In analizing data the researcher used an ordering system of categories because is research takes specific data, which aims to find affixes in short stories “The Red-Headed League” and “The Adventure of the Three Garridebs”. The theoretical approach used by the researcher is morphological analysis.

In the research there are 2 affix processes found in the two short stories, namely the affix added at the beginning of the word called prefix and the affix added at the end of the word called suffix. And in short stories, there are four patterns in common. The first pattern is prefix with base word, the second pattern is a base word with a suffix, the third pattern is a word that has a prefix and a suffix, and the last pattern is a word that has two suffixes.
