Abstract

Background: The rapid development and growth of population would generate a lot of waste. Both of household waste and market waste which could be a big problem for the city region. Dense population could also be a factor of increasing need for energy, especially fossil fuels. To eliminate the possibility of the worst impacts of fossil fuel use, at least there was some ways out of the utilization of waste. The utilization of agricultural waste as fuel have been researched and done, both as alternative fuels or small industry as waste management to produce charcoal briquette. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of density on the durability of coal and boiling time of water of bio-charcoal briquette rice husk. Methods: This was a true experimental study with a posttest only design. The Objects in this study was the bio-briquette charcoal made of rice husk with the density of 1.125 g/cm3, 1 g/cm3, 0.84 g/cm3, 0.559 g/cm3 used to counting the coal durability and counting boil water with a temperature of 1000 ml boiling at the boiling point of 100oC. The measurement data were analyzed by ANOVA to determine whether there was any significant relationship between density with time boiling time of water and charcoal durability. Results:There was a time effect of density on boiling time of water on bio-charcoal briquette made of rice husk indicated from the results of ANOVA test with sig of 0.000 <than 0.05. The results obtained in testing the durability of bio-charcoal briquettes made rice husk was that there was density effect on the durability of bio-charcoal briquette made of rice husk indicated from the results of ANOVA test with sig of 0.000 < than 0.05. Conclusion: There was effect of density with durability on bio-charcoal briquette made of rice husk and there was an effect between the densities with boiling time of water on bio-charcoal briquette made of rice husk.
