Abstract

Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera L.) contain flavonoids that have the potential as antibacterial. Staphylococcus aureus is one of the bacteria that causes various pyogenic infections and skin infections. Developing peel-off mask pharmaceutical dosage forms was carried out to make good use of this plant's efficacy for the community. This study aimed to see the effect of variations in extract concentrations on antibacterial activity in mask pharmaceutical dosage.
The extract was formulated in the form of a peel-off mask with varying concentrations of 6% for formula I, 9% for formula II and 12% for formula III. Moringa leaves extract (Moringa oleifera L.) was obtained using 50% ethanol solvent by maceration method. Masks were evaluated for antibacterial activity by the well diffusion method on Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The data obtained was based on the measurements of the inhibition zone formed around the well, which was characterized by a clear zone. Data were analyzed using SPSS to see if there were differences between the formulas.
Test results show that the 50% variation in ethanol extract concentration (Moringa oleifera L.) in peeloff masks has an effect on the antibacterial activity of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, while in Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria the highest concentration of extracts has an antibacterial activity. The higher the concentration of ethanol extract 50% of the leaves found in the peel off mask the greater the antibacterial activity that is formed.
The conclusion of this study was that the ethanol extract concentration of 50% of the leaves showed the best antibacterial activity in the preparation of a peel-off mask was 12% in Formula III.
