Abstract
Background: Plastic waste is a major challenge in environmental management, with the percentage of waste in D.I Yogyakarta reaching 52%. Sukunan Tourism Village is one of the villages that has implemented ecobricking which focuses on utilizing plastic waste in a creative and productive way. The purpose of this study was to analyze the utilization of plastic waste using the ecobrick method in Sukunan Tourism Village Yogyakarta. Methods: using qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. Subjects were determined through snowball and purposive sampling techniques, involving village administrators, RW 19 representatives, janitors, and residents of Sukunan Tourism Village. Analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Results: The ecobrick method in Sukunan Tourism Village is effective in reducing plastic waste, complements existing management, produces useful products and is easy to implement. The ecobrick method in Sukunan Tourism Village reduces plastic waste, increases awareness, strengthens socio-economics, and maintains cleanliness, although participation is still limited. The implementation of the ecobrick method in Sukunan Tourism Village is supported by sustainable waste management, active community roles, and government and institutional support, but still faces challenges of low community participation and motivation, especially in certain groups. Conclusion: the ecobrick method in Sukunan Tourism Village has the potential to be a sustainable solution to plastic waste management, but still faces challenges in increasing community participation.
