Abstract

The study of language cannot be separated from cultural aspect. Some experts believe in linguistic relativity that is associated language with the worldview of the speaker. Not only linguistic relativity, but the correlation between language and culture is also related to the quantity of lexicon on particular concept or entity. Concept or entity needs lexicon as its label to be used in the communication process. The more lexicon it has, the more important it is for the people, or it is called as being the chief interest of the people.
One of culture material is technology for the living and it includes living place as the shelter of human being. Many lexicons of living place(s) emerge according to the need of the speaker (in this case, the people). Since language represents the worldview of the speaker, the concept embodied in the lexicon of living place is assumed to be able to reflect the speaker’s worldview. As part of Indonesian people, studying the language and the culture is more advantageous, thus, this paper will focus on Indonesian language and the culture.
Based on the previous explanation, therefore, this paper aims at 1) describing the lexicon of living places in Indonesian and 2) the concept of living place related to the worldview of the speaker. By doing so, the identity of the nation can be described.
