Abstract

This research is entitled "The Component of Love in Josie Silver’s One Day in December Base on Triangular Love Theory by Robert J. Sternberg". This research aims to analyze the component of love contained in the novel One Day in December by Josie Silver based on the Triangular Love theory by Robert J. Sternberg. In this research, researchers used qualitative descriptive methods to analyze data. To collect data, researchers read novels and then use journals, theses, etc. to complete data collection. The results of this research found three components of love according to Sternberg, namely intimacy, passion, and commitment. In the intimacy component, there are 7 out of 10 elements. In the passion component, two data were found related to the passion component where Laurie was only interested and passionate about Jack, and in the commitment component in this novel, there was a short-term commitment component when Laurie decided to start a new relationship with Oscar to forget Jack, and a long-term commitment component when Laurie and Jack finally get back together. The results of this thesis analysis can conclude that the type of love in the novel One Day in December is consume love according to Sternberg.
