Abstract
The change in the mode of learning from face-to-face to online learning likely cause disruption to learners’ perception and experience of learning. While learners' perceptions can be positive or negative. Therefore this research is to find out students' on the perspective of English Education students on the implementation of online learning during COVID-19 pandemic at the English Education Program of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan.
This research adopted a qualitative approach, selecting six students from the English Education Program as interview participants. Thematic analysis was employed as the data analysis technique.
The data shows that emotions have an impact on students' cognitive processes. Cognitive presence is influenced by positive and negative emotions. In addition, social presence has a significant impact on social presence. Students reported that the lack of interaction was caused by several obstacles such as unstable connections and student discomfort in participating in online learning. The results of this study can be used as a reference for lecturers and institutions to improve online learning quality.
