Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of chitosan nanoparticles preparation Ethanol Extract Roselle (SNKEER) on the lipid profile of Sprague Dawley rat strain-induced hypercholesterolemia. Making SNKEER done based on the results of the optimization with a ratio of 2: 1: 1/10 (ethanol extract of roselle (EER): chitosan: TPP), further in vivo tests using female white rat strain Sprague Dawley (SD) age of 6-8 weeks a number of 25 were divided into 5 groups: group I (K1) is the control group were fed a standard; group II (K2) induced hypercholesterolemia; and group III (3), IV (4), and V (5) induced hypercholesterolemia and SNKEER each at a dose of 25, 50, and 100 mg / kg, for 30 days. On day 31, all test animals orbital venous blood drawn through the eye to be measured lipid profile (total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL, triglycerides). Analysis for this study is followed by Tukey follow-up test 5%. The results of the study the average measurements of lipid profile is the measurement of cholesterol K1, K2, K3, K4, K5 were 106.76; 233.45; 197.63; 158.61; 133.94 mg / dl respectively, Triglycerides: 73.33; 125.51; 107.97; 90.43; 80.87 mg / dl, HDL: 44.41; 14.45; 18.19; 23.68; 30,90mg / dl, LDL: 51.58; 72.24; 63.16; 54.61; 51.84 mg / dl. The results of the data analysis showed that the group SNKEER doses (25, 50, 100 mg / kg body weight) can significantly have effect on the increasing of the lipid profile, especially in the lower levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL levels and HDL levels significantly when compared to hypercholesterolemia (K2). The treatment group that produces the best improvements in lipid profiles was SNKEER group with dose of 100 mg / kg when compared to all treatment groups (P <0.05).
