Abstract
Learning English today is no longer limited by location or time. With the advancement of technology, many mediums are available for learning, especially for enhancing vocabulary. One of the mediums with various interesting and educational content, including English learning materials, is TikTok videos. TikTok videos are currently widely used by young people, especially students who are members in PALP. The purpose of this study to know the perceptions of students who are members of PALP regarding the use of TikTok videos to learn vocabulary and find out more about the strategies, obstacle experienced by students at PALP when using TikTok to learn vocabulary.
This research uses a mixed-method research design with a sequential explanatory approach model. Respondents in this study amounted to 40 students who are members of PALP. The data were collected using two instrument questionnaire and semi-structured interview.
The result of this study is that most of the students of PALP give a positive response to the use of TikTok videos to learn vocabulary. The use of TikTok videos motivates them to continue learning and enriching vocabulary. There are many factors, such as interesting and diverse content, and the save feature to re-watch the video. These factors make it easier for students and make students enjoy learning vocabulary. However, the researcher found factors that influence students' negative perceptions such as the short duration of videos, videos that have many parts and non-educational videos also become a distraction to focus on educational videos.
