Abstract

The 2,5 bis (4hydroxy-3metoksibenzilidine) cyclopentanone or pentagamanuvon (PGV-O) compound is one of the modified structure of middle chains of curcumin compound in which the acetyl acetone group was replaced by cyclopentanone. This research aims to study the kinetics of vanillin reacting with cyclopentanone to yield 2,5 bis (4hydroxy-3metoksibenzilidine) cyclopentanone (PGV-O) in batch reactor, by making a model reaction.
Vanillin weight 22.98 grams (0.15 mol) was added to cyclopentanone as much as 132.6 ml (1.5 mol). The mixture was stirred ad 400 rpm. The reaction started by addition of HCl as catalyst as much as 0,15 mol. On each interval of 10 minutes, a few mg samples was taken to be analyzed by spectrophotometry methods of which the concentration of PGV-O contains are identified. The variables of this study are tome (0-60 minutes) and temperature (30-60 C).
Analisis technique was using the method of average error, square r, and SSE. With the reaction kinetic model follows the srinking core models (SCM), at minutes 0-60 with stirring, the diffusion through the coating film was controlled, so that the appropriate equation is : t/τ =Ln (1-XB)-0,5

Keywords : kinetics, SCM, PGV-O.
