Abstract
There have been various attempts at social and legal reform aimed at improving Muslim's women in Pakistan during the 20th century. One of female Pakistani writers is Qaisra Shahraz.
Shahraz's work interweaves symbolism, theme, and contemporary issues. Her novel provides an original perspective on confrontation between old and new, male and female, and East and West. Her fiction is peopled by strong female characters, who are dominated by their menfolks. This paper tries to analyze how Shahraz depicts her female characters in challenging traditional values in Pakistani society in her novel The Holy Woman.
