Abstract
Character education through clean living is a way to instill the character of environmental care. Its development is needed to grow nation’s character so that it can be identified clearly, to distinct with other nations, and to deal with the rapid changing of time and information. Nation Character is reflected by human’s character who lives in it. Character education is carried out sustainably. It means that the development of character values is a long term process, started from early students enroll in school until they graduate. Active learning and enjoy-full learning are ap- plied in the education process. Nation character education can be done through familiarizing noble moral values and appropriate habits toward students. One indicator of character education as a material to apply nation character education is environmental care which reflected from attitude and behavior to always prevent natural damage, and to develop the efforts to refine the natural damage. By embedding character of environmental care to students, it can train them to enhance and to nurture the environmental quality.
Accustoming clean living to one self, home’s environment and school’s environment is one of efforts to embed the environmental care value. Through cleanliness will give benefits especially for body’s health. As body is clean and healthy, every activity will be optimum and appropriate with its purpose. Embedding environmental care value to elementary school students is very important and needs a lot of repetition. Besides making it as a habit, teachers also need to give a model through giving a direct example to students about clean living pattern in school
