Abstract

This study examines the use of euphemisms in the "national" rubric on the Koran.tempo.co
website, August 2023 edition. The research aims to describe the forms and types of euphemism
references used in this section. It is a qualitative study focusing on the "national" section and the
use of euphemisms within it. Data were collected using observation methods with reading and notetaking techniques. The research instruments included human instruments and data cards. Analysis
was conducted using referential matching with techniques such as determinant element sorting
(PUP) and comparison equating (HBS). The findings show that the forms of euphemisms include 18
abbreviations, 1 loanword, 30 foreign terms, 7 metaphors, and 10 periphrasis. The types of
euphemism references are 11 related to objects, 2 to body parts, 5 to professions, 2 to diseases, 22
to activities, 7 to events, and 33 to characteristics or conditions.
