Abstract

This research delves into a comparative analysis of intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics in the portrayal of two iconic superheroines, "Sri Asih" and "Ms. Marvel" (Kamala Khan), aims to uncover the psychological and cultural dimensions that shape their identity. Employing a qualitative approach, this research examines the intrinsic traits of heroes, revealing elements of courage, resilience and commitment to justice. "Sri Asih," deeply rooted in Indonesian mythology, embodies bravery as she protects her village, while "Ms. Marvel" exhibits resilience in balancing her dual identity as a Pakistani-American teenager and a crime-fighting hero in Jersey City.
Exploring extrinsic characteristics, the research revealed the influence of culture on these superheroes. "Sri Asih" becomes a symbol of Indonesian empowerment, breaking traditional gender norms. In contrast, "Ms. Marvel" pioneers’ cultural representation in American superhero narratives, challenging stereotypes and celebrating diversity.
Findings indicate that both heroines, though from diverse cultural backgrounds, share universal qualities that resonate globally. Their narratives transcend cultural boundaries, challenging societal norms and fostering inclusivity. Both characters serve as powerful symbols of empowerment, courage, and resilience, influencing audiences around the world.
