Abstract
followed by an object. However, in certain syntactic condition, the verb is not followed by an object. It is followed by a complement. The verb in certain circumstances functions as a copular verb since it links the complement—the same as copula—with the subject. Beside SVO construction, the SVC (Subject-Verb-Complement) construction is also commonly produced by English speakers.
There are many previous studies on copular verb in English. Nevertheless, only few studies focused on its semantic aspects. Thus, this paper aims at describing the semantic structure of sentence with copular verb as its predicate. By so doing, it will be assumed to give another insight to English grammar and English learners.
