Abstract
This research aims at finding out if there is a relationship between listening comprehension proficiency and learning strategies. The population of the study consisted of 467 students of English Department. The sampling was done by way of the proportional stratified procedure random technique. Two data collection instruments were employed. A TOEFL equivalent listening comprehension test and a self-made questionnaire. Data analysis was carried out using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive consists of regression and ANOVA. The two objective related findings are as follows. First, the overall means of listening comprehension proficiency is 22.870 out of 50 questions or 45.74 percent, situated wise below the expected value. Second, correlation coefficient between listening comprehension proficiency and learning strategy is 0.648 significant at p=0.000 or <0.001. Further analysis shows learning strategy explains 44.631 percent of the factors affecting listening comprehension proficiency.
