Abstract
Fidya Felinda Ilahude, 2024. Empowering Extensive Reading through MALL: A Study of English Language Education Students of Universitas Ahmad Dahlan. THESIS. Supervised by: 1) Drs. Bambang Widi Pratolo, M.Hum., Ph.D. 2) Dr. Tengku Nazatul Shima Tengku Paris. Yogyakarta: Universitas Ahmad Dahlan- Indonesia, in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA – Malaysia.
This study offers a meticulously structured examination of student empowerment dynamics in extensive reading through Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL). Conducted within the English Education Undergraduate Study Program at Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Yogyakarta, third-semester students participated in a mixed methods study employing both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Findings reveal moderate empowerment levels amid challenges like internet connectivity issues and pedagogical disengagement. The study advocates for pedagogical reflection and interventions to nurture a conducive learning environment. Implications include the need for technology integration in language learning, fostering digital literacy, and advocating for student-cantered approaches. Educators are urged to adopt blended learning strategies, while universities should invest in infrastructure and digital literacy initiatives. This study aligns with global education trends, emphasizing technology's role in enhancing learning outcomes. Furthermore, it encourages collaborative and interdisciplinary study in technology-integrated language education to explore further the implementation of MALL and its impact on language proficiency.
