Abstract
Pronunciation is a way of delivering words that can be accepted and understood in a particular language. Someone who masters English can usually be seen from the way he pronounces it. The purpose of this research is to be able to improve teaching that involves the pronunciation of silent letters using YouTube videos. Silent letters are certain letters that are not pronounced or sounded in a word. In learning English, it does not only provide theory and knowledge, but is realized as a means of communication so that students become more trained in English pronunciation, especially silent letters.
The method used is class action research. The subjects were senior high school students and the research was conducted for 2 cycles. After the data was collected, the results of observations and interviews were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques. The subjects of this study were senior high school who had difficulty pronouncing silent letters, especially grades X MIPA 1. The research procedure is divided into four, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. Classroom action research was carried out 4 times, namely pre-cycle without using media, pre-cycle using media, post-test cycle 1, and post-test cycle 2
The search result is 1. The pretest results showed that 7 students (19%) had scores above the KKM and 29 students (81%) had scores below the KKM. The class average score on the Pre-Test is still relatively low so the class average score is still far below the KKM ; 2. The results of post test cycle 1 showed that 18 students (50%) had scores above the KKM and 18 students (50%) had scores below the KKM. The class average score in Post-Test cycle 1 is still not sufficient for the KKM, although there is quite a high increase, the expected results cannot be said to be successful ; 3. Post test cycle 2, there were 32 students (88%) who had scores above the KKM and as many as 4 students (12%) got scores below the KKM. The scores on the post-test cycle 2 experienced a significant increase compared to the post-test cycle 1. The results obtained were a significant increase in student learning outcomes after implementing YouTube video media. Learning methods and media are one of the success factors for students in understanding learning, using video media can increase the stimulus so that it makes it easier for students to remember.
