Abstract

In this study, the researcher found the speaking skill levels of seventh grade students in Al Muhsin Islamic Middle School are low. It caused by several problems such as student’s lack of motivation, less enjoyable and tends to be passive interest in learning English. Not only that, teacher-centered and textbooks- centered be a supporting factor for passive learning. The underutilization of technology-based learning media is also a barrier.
Those became the reason for the researcher in conducting research development. The aims of this research to present contextual teaching material technology-based in order to improve students' speaking skills through interactive and modern learning methods in E-book. The goal of this study is to develop an English speaking material using Flip E-Book.
This research is Experimental research development and quantitative method is used in this study, where researcher used the experimental class and the control class as the research samples. Pre-test and post-test methods are used to measure the extent of student achievement in learning.
In this research, researcher uses the CIPP model as a method for developing and evaluating materials or books as a tool to improving students' speaking skills. There are some steps to develop Teacher-Made Flip E-Book as English speaking material, such as need analysis, design instructions, development material, expert validation, teacher validation, try out product, revision, and final product.
After the students were treated using the developed Flip E-book, in the post-test results, the average achievement score of experimental class students increased by more than 38%. The results obtained by this experimental class were quite significant compared to the control class which only experienced an average increase of 5%. Based on the students' responses and research result, using Teacher-Made Flip E-Book can enhance students’ speaking skill effectively.
