Abstract
Vocabulary is learnt in school since the beginning of school. It is one of the base aspects for students. The more students can master vocabulary, the more easy students can study English. They can learn vocabulary in several ways, both at school and outside school. In other way, they are often bored study English because the monotonous method. In SMPIT Permata Hati, the students get the English lesson from many activities. They often do some activities like watching English movies to support the material to spend the spare times. English movie can be fun media for students to study. It can improve the skills of the students with enjoy way. The aim of this research is to find how is the students’ habit of watching English movies, to identify how is the students’ vocabulary mastery, and to identify whether if there is any significant correlation between students’ habit of watching English movies and vocabulary mastery of the Students of SMPIT Permata Hati Banjarnegara year of 2020/2021.
This research uses quantitative methods because it to test the correlation from the two variables. The independent variable is the students’ habit in watching English movie and the dependent variable is the students’ vocabulary mastery. The samples were 48 students of ninth grade at SMPT Permata Hati, Banjarnegara. The sample is using all of the ninth-grade students in there. The data collection instrument uses a questionnaire to ensure the habit of watching English movies and vocabulary test for vocabulary mastery.
The researcher finds that from the data analysis the students’ habit of watching English movies was in a good category. It means that there are students’ habit in watching English Movie. The students’ vocabulary mastery was in excellent category. It means that they had mastery the vocabularies. Also, Null Hypothesis (H0) that there was no significant correlation between students’ habit of watching English Movies and vocabulary mastery was accepted because Sig. correlation coefficient of variables X and Y were .019 which is higher than 0.05 (α = 0.019 > 0.05).
