Abstract
This research is entitled The Difference of Parenting Style between Nicholas Young and Rachel Chu in Crazy Rich Asians Film (2018). Parenting style has a significant role in child development. Each parent has a unique way of educating their children, and the parenting style they adopt can influence various aspects of a child's life, including social, emotional, and psychological development. The objective of this study is to identify the difference of parenting style and factors causing differences in parenting styles practiced by respective parents of Nicholas Young and Rachel Chu.
In this study, the researcher used the qualitative research method. The primary data drawn from the film Crazy Rich Asians dialogues. These data are analyzed by using sociological and psychological approaches, while the theories were Marxist and Parenting Style theory.
The result of this study shows that Nicholas Young's mother employs an authoritarian and partially authoritative parenting style, while Rachel Chu's mother adopts an authoritative and permissive parenting style. The main cause behind these differences in parenting styles are the disparity in social class between Nicholas Young and Rachel Chu.
