Abstract
ities is effective to the students reading skills. The method used in this research was
quantitative design with a quasi-experimental study. The population in this study were 63 students
from SD Muhammadiyah Bausasran with two sample classes which have 32 and 31 students.
Both classes were assigned into experimental and control class. Experimental class was taught by
using the media as supporting instrument in order to comprehend the narrative text with comic
meanwhile, control class was taught with traditional teaching method by the teacher. Comics are
one of the favorite reading materials for many people, including children. This is because comics
have interesting design and are filled with pictures. Reading is one of the language skills (
listening, reading, writing, speaking, watching and presenting ) that everyone should learn and
master.
Research method in this study, researcher using a quasi-experimental method. In this
model, the researcher takes the action twice, before the action is called pre-test and after the action
is called post-test. To make it easier for the researcher to collect data must use data collection
techniques. In collecting this data, the researcher uses observation and test techniques. Data
analysis method are techniques for analyzing the data obtained.
The data was collected through pre-test and post-test. Based on the calculation, this
research showed that using comic strips is effective in teaching-learning narrative text. Based on
the comparison of pre-test and post-test result described in the chapter before it, the experimental
class applies the Reading Comic Book application for learning reading English in class. Finally
based on the overall results of this analysis, it can be concluded that the hypothesis (Ha) is
accepted, namely that there is a positive effect of using comic in teaching reading to improve
reading skills
